For twenty years, Circo Nero, the visionary project created in Florence by Leandro Bisenzi, has transformed the traditional language of circus into a contemporary experience where art, fashion, performance and human emotion meet.
Born in 2006 from Bisenzi’s fascination with the timeless magic of the circus and inspired by Tod Browning’s Freaks (1932), Circo Nero developed a distinctive artistic identity built around tolerance, freedom, irony, beauty and the celebration of diversity.
Its universe is populated by clowns, illusionists, contortionists, acrobats, jugglers, performers and extraordinary characters. Yet behind every mask lies a human story: the tension between identity and social expectations, between the person we are and the person society asks us to become.
Florence provides the project with a natural cultural foundation. A city synonymous with art, craftsmanship, fashion and international creativity, it becomes the ideal setting for a circus that replaces the traditional tent with a sophisticated contemporary aesthetic. Costumes, created in collaboration with emerging designers, transform each performer into a living expression of style and imagination.
Behind the spectacular energy of Circo Nero lies a deeper philosophy: difference is not something to hide, but a dimension of humanity to celebrate.
This philosophy also reveals itself in the personal story of Leandro Bisenzi. During an event dedicated to people living with Parkinson’s disease, he once asked for a first-row seat to remain empty, explaining that it belonged to his mother—a woman who was physically present in his memory while he was painfully witnessing her gradual loss to a neurodegenerative illness.
That moment offers a profound key to understanding the man behind the spectacle. Beneath the irreverence, the glitter and the apparent madness of Circo Nero exists a world of sensitivity, memory and human fragility.
Today, after two decades of artistic evolution, Circo Nero continues to position itself at the intersection of entertainment, fashion, performance and contemporary culture. Its recent recognition at the Dance Music Awards 2026 as Italy’s Best Entertainment Agency further confirms the international relevance of a project born in Florence and conceived to speak to a universal audience.
When the lights go out and the performance ends, what remains is not simply the memory of a show.
It is an invitation to look inward—to question our masks, our boundaries and our relationship with others.
Circo Nero does not simply stage the extraordinary. It reminds us that the extraordinary already exists within every human being.
TWENTY YEARS LATER
Today, Circo Nero celebrates two decades of artistic evolution, while Bisenzi has received recognition at the Dance Music Awards 2026 as Best Entertainment Agency in Italy.
But awards tell only part of the story.
The deeper achievement lies in having created a language that continues to evolve without losing its original soul.
A language built on tolerance, irony, beauty, extravagance and joy.
A language in which the mask does not hide us—it gives us permission to reveal ourselves.
And then, inevitably, the lights go out.
The music stops.
The characters disappear.
But the experience remains.
Perhaps that is the real power of Circo Nero.
It does not simply entertain.
It challenges.
It seduces.
It provokes.
It forces us to look again at the boundaries between normality and madness, elegance and excess, identity and performance.
For twenty years, Leandro Bisenzi has turned the circus into a contemporary statement:
difference is not a weakness; it is a signature.
freedom is not an excess; it is a luxury.
and joy, when shared without fear, becomes an act of resistance.
That is the magic of Circo Nero.
Not a circus escaping from reality—
but a circus giving us the courage to rewrite it.
