MILANO UNICA 43 -
FROM HERITAGE TO THE FUTURE — THE EVOLUTION OF TEXTILE EXCELLENCE IN A CHANGING GLOBAL INDUSTRY
Milan, Italy | 7 July 2026
As the international textile and fashion industry gathers in Milan for the 43rd edition of Milano Unica, the opening ceremony sets the tone for a broader conversation that extends beyond fabrics and collections. Under the theme "From Heritage to the Future: The Path of Innovation in Textiles and Fashion," the event brings together institutional leaders, industry executives, economists, innovators and media representatives to examine how one of Italy's most strategic sectors is adapting to global transformation.
Hosted at Fiera Milano Rho, Milano Unica has established itself as one of Europe's leading exhibitions for premium textiles and accessories, bringing together manufacturers, luxury brands, designers, buyers and innovators from around the world.
The opening session will be inaugurated by Simone Canclini, President of Milano Unica, followed by institutional addresses from Attilio Fontana, President of the Lombardy Region, Matteo Zoppas, President of the Italian Trade Agency (ICE), and Giovanni Bozzetti, President of Fondazione Fiera Milano.
A multidisciplinary roundtable will explore the future of the textile industry through the perspectives of economics, sustainability, innovation, digital transformation and global competitiveness. Speakers include Chiara Beghelli (Il Sole 24 Ore), Erika Andreetta (PwC Italy), Mauro Sampellegrini (Confindustria Moda), Stefano Galassi (Limitless Innovation), David Pambianco (Pambianco) and David Zdravkovic (OC&C Strategy Consultants).
The event will conclude with remarks by Valentino Valentini, Deputy Minister at Italy's Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, highlighting the strategic role of the textile and fashion industries within the country's industrial policy.
Italy's Textile Heritage as a Global Reference
For decades, Italy has represented a benchmark for textile manufacturing, combining artisanal expertise with technological innovation, sustainability and design excellence. Companies with centuries of history continue to invest in research, advanced production methods and international partnerships while preserving knowledge passed down through generations.
This balance between heritage and innovation has become one of the defining characteristics of the Made in Italy ecosystem and a source of inspiration for fashion industries worldwide.
Fashion as a Platform for Cultural Dialogue
Beyond its commercial significance, Milano Unica increasingly serves as a meeting point where culture, craftsmanship, education and innovation intersect.
As global fashion becomes more interconnected, events such as Milano Unica create opportunities for dialogue among manufacturers, designers, researchers, institutions and creative communities from different regions of the world.
Within this broader context, initiatives that promote intercultural exchange—including conversations around African textile traditions, craftsmanship and creative industries—can contribute to a richer understanding of fashion as both an economic sector and a cultural language.
Looking Ahead
The theme of Milano Unica 43 reflects a challenge shared across the global fashion industry: how to preserve heritage while embracing technological change, sustainability and international collaboration.
As the sector continues to evolve, the dialogue between established manufacturing excellence and emerging creative perspectives will remain essential to shaping a more innovative, inclusive and globally connected future.
